Annual Meeting 2013: Art Show to Feature Attorney’s Work
By: Kristen Senz
For Lisa Hall, creating intricate beaded jewelry has always been a hobby, but when she was cramming for the bar exam in 2010, she found it could also be a tool for solving complex legal problems.
"There’s a rhythm to it," she says. "It’s almost meditative… and I tend to come up with interesting solutions to problems I’ve been thinking about."
Now, Hall and three other local artists are using their art to help revitalize the NH Bar Association Annual Meeting, which will feature a free art show and cocktail reception at the Sheraton Harborside in Portsmouth on Friday, June 21.
"We were trying to come up with something a little bit different, something a little fresher, that we could do at the annual meeting," said Hall, a member of the NHBA New Lawyers Committee.
When other committee members suggested an art show, Hall, who shows her beadwork at McGowan Fine Arts Gallery in Concord, recommended McGowan as a partner in the effort. Hall, a former nurse who is now an associate at Upton & Hatfield in Concord, said she didn’t expect to be one of the artists selected for the show. But, she said, she’s thrilled to be exhibitting at the annual meeting alongside artists Melissa Anne Miller, John Bonner and Matthew Brown. The artists’ mediums include painting, sculpture and Hall’s beaded jewelry.
A portion of the sales from this members-only art show will be donated to support civil legal services for the poor.
The art show will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21, at the Sheraton in Portsmouth. There will be a cash bar and light refreshments. For more information and to register for the meeting, please visit the NHBA Annual Meeting web page.
