Award to Bar Legal Info Project
The NH Division for Children, Youth and Families presented an award this month to the NH Bar’s New Lawyers Committee for a project that is educating older teens on their legal rights and responsibilities. (Pictured is DCYF’s Rob Rodler with attorney and project volunteer Francesca Hennessy).
“Fostering Legal Independence” was first developed by the NHBA Leadership Academy, Class of 2012. It was such a success that the New Lawyers Committee decided to continue the program this year.
“Each year about 75 children age out of the New Hampshire foster care system, many without a permanent home or family to support their transition into adulthood and self-sufficiency,” explained Hennessy, a 2012 Leadership Academy graduate who last year joined the New Lawyers Committee. The team that developed the project also included Kysa Crusco, Thomas E. Walker, the late Elyse Alkaly, Lyndsee Paskalis, and Mark Beaudoin.
