Casemaker Clues

Casemaker, the NH Bar Association’s free legal research tool for members, has a number of general and state-specific features designed to streamline the online research experience.

Live help
Live-messaging with the Help Desk at Casemaker is now available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Click on the Help button at the top of the page anywhere in Casemaker.

Administrative codes for all states
David Harriman, Casemaker CEO, reports that the administrative codes of 30 states are already available on Casemaker, and by mid-2014, all 50 states’ administrative codes will be on the site. Updates will also be made more frequently.

NH’s code of administrative rules
From the Board of Accountancy to the Water Well Board, these codes are available in the NH library.

Sharing Casemaker results
Did you know you can print or save the opinions you find on Casemaker in several formats, including as a full-text printout, a direct email to a collegue or portable document format (PDF). All of the options for saving search results are available by clicking on the icon on the right side of the Casemaker page. Although the print option appears on many Casemaker pages, to print the full text of an opinion, you must open the case first. You cannot print the full opinion directly from the search results list.

If you choose to email an opinion, a pop-up window opens where you enter the email addresses of the recipients. The recipient will see the opinion as an attachment to the email.

Case law back to 5 NH
Casemaker has been quietly going back in time, adding case law, and currently has available NH Reports cases going back to 5 NH 549 (State v. Batchelder – 1832). Casemaker officials say that they expect to go “back to statehood or beyond” with caselaw in all 50 states by year’s end.
