NH Bar Foundation News: Spice Up Your September at the Jazz for Justice Dinner

IOLTA Grants Committee Seeks Nominations
Nominations are sought for those interested in serving on the New Hampshire Bar Foundation’s Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Grants Committee. There is one five-year term open on the committee.

A nomination form, available on the Bar Foundation website, must be completed and returned to the Bar Center by Monday, July 28.

The committee meets several times each year to review requests for grants and make recommendations to the NH Bar Foundation governing board. Members may serve up to two consecutive five-year terms.

The IOLTA program has raised more than $30 million since it was implemented in 1982. IOLTA grants support important legal access programs and law-related education projects.

Now serving on the IOLTA Committee are:
Jamie Hage, Hage Hodes
*Donald Hebert, Hebert & Dolder
Karen McGinley, Devine Millimet & Branch
Leslie Nixon, Nixon, Vogelman, Barry, Slawsky & Simoneau
*Hebert’s first five-year term ends next month.

Each year, friends and supporters of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation gather for an evening to celebrate the accomplishments of the organization over the previous year and to keep momentum building for the future. This September, supporters of the foundation will:
  • Celebrate the accomplishments of the Bar Foundation’s IOLTA Program. This year, IOLTA will provide nearly $1 million ($960,000) in sorely needed operating funds for civil legal aid in New Hampshire. IOLTA is the largest non-government source of funding for equal justice initiatives in our state. That’s worth some applause!
  • Present the Frank Rowe Kenison Award and the Robert E. Kirby Award to deserving recipients. The list of past recipients of these awards is literally a “Who’s Who” of New Hampshire’s legal community and a predictor of its rising stars.
  • Pay tribute to the banks in New Hampshire and neighboring states that participate in the IOLTA program.
This year, we are adding another reason to attend or support the annual Bar Foundation event: It’s going to be FUN.

After the awards are presented, the year recapped and the banks applauded, throw away your programs and move your feet to some lively, toe-tapping, swinging, big-band-style jazz.

Rico Barr and the Jumpin’ Jazz Review, fronted by Salem attorney Ralph Barbagallo, will spice up the festivities of this year’s Bar Foundation dinner.

And keeping with the spicy theme – look for food stations featuring New Orleans style cuisine.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Radisson in Manchester, will feature great food, a cash bar, and plenty of opportunities to catch up with colleagues and friends.

Invitations will be mailed to previous attendees. To get on the list or to find out more about how to buy tickets, please contact Lisha Brosseau, Foundation assistant, at
Sponsors Hit a High Note
Now is the time for you to hit the high note in support of equal access to justice by participating in the Bar Foundation’s only fundraising event of the year with a sponsorship. Swing with us at the Louis Armstrong level, or choose one of the other sponsorship levels.
