Bar Governance: McLane Director Scott Harris Appointed to NHBA Board
By: Dan Wise
The NH Bar Association Board of Governors ratified the appointment of Scott Harris to serve the remaining year of the three-year term as NHBA Secretary that was recently vacated by Peter Hutchins.
Hutchins, a sole practitioner in Manchester, is a past NHBA president (2001-2002) and returned to the board as secretary in 2008.
Harris, a director at the McLane law firm, had recently completed a two-year term as the Hillsborough County (North) governor on the board. He also had been a candidate for board vice president during the last NH Bar Association board election. He will serve through next year; the seat will be filled at the next board election in March 2015.
The boardís Aug. 22 meeting included an orientation for new board members, followed by a discussion about the barís strategic planning initiative and the steps to be taken to better align the associationís leadership, volunteers and staff to the strategic goals, as well as to set up ways to maintain that focus. The strategic planning session was facilitated by Elizabeth Derrico of the American Bar Associationís Division for Bar Services, who has been assisting the NHBA in the planning process over the past year.
The boardís next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18.
