This month kicks off a new year for the NH Bar Association Leadership Academy.

The Class of 2015 comprises 14 attorneys coming from all parts of the state, from law firms large and small, as well as the NH Public Defender.

NHBA Leadership Academy, now in its fourth year, kicked off with a reception for the new group, with Leadership Academy alumni and Bar Association board members on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Starting Friday, Oct. 17, Leadership Academy begins in earnest with a day-and-a-half retreat at the Wolfeboro Inn designed to help participants get to know each other, begin instruction on leadership skills, and learn about the programming and work they will undertake during the Academy year.

The schedule includes educational modules on the business sector, the judicial branch, nonprofit board service, media relations, legislative and executive branches. The participants will also assist in the development of a symposium on the future of the profession that will include a wrap-up social event. The Leadership Academy attorneys also attend and participate in the NHBA midyear and annual meetings.

Demographically, the class of 2015 is representative of the Bar, with nine solo or small-firm attorneys, four from large firms, and one from the NH Public Defender. The average level of experience is just over five years (the program is limited to attorneys with three to 10 years in practice). Seven of the state’s 10 counties are represented.

Visit the Leadership Academy pages at www.nhbar.org to find out more.

If you are in doubt about the status of any meeting, please call the Bar Center at 603-224-6942 before you head out.
