NHBA Legal Services Director is Panelist at National Event
Ginny Martin, NHBA associate executive director for legal services, participated as a panelist at a national event sponsored by the Legal Services Corporation in Washington last month.
Martin, who oversees the Bar Association’s Pro Bono Referral Program, participated in a panel discussion on “The Impact of Law Firms on the Justice Gap” at the kick-off conference for LSC, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Pro Bono receives a sub-grant from LSC to fund private attorney involvement in delivering legal services. The Bar Association Pro Bono program solicits and trains attorneys, and refers low-income clients to volunteers with appropriate experience or training.
Martin estimates that Pro Bono leverages $3 million in donated legal services each year. At any given time, Pro Bono manages a caseload of about 1,800 cases, including ongoing cases referred in prior years and new client referrals to volunteer attorneys.
In addition to the LSC funding, received through the NH Legal Advice & Referral Center, Pro Bono receives funding from the NH Bar Foundation’s IOLTA program, the Campaign for Legal Services, several United Way chapters, and other grants.
