Arpiar G. Saunders of Hopkinton died Nov. 18, 2014, at the age of 72.
After graduating from St. Lawrence University with a degree in government, Saunders went on to Boston University School of Law and graduated in 1968. After law school, he served in the Judge Advocate’s General Corps of the US Army and then the ACLU’s National Prison Project in Washington, DC.
Saunders moved to New Hampshire to work for New Hampshire Legal Assistance as the director of litigation. He later became a professor of law and dean of academic affairs at Franklin Pierce Law Center, now the University of New Hampshire School of Law. In 1996, he joined Shaheen & Gordon full time, retiring in 2010.
His volunteer service included board membership with organizations such as the New Hampshire Office of Public Guardian, Hopkinton School and the Disability Rights Center - NH. Saunders received the NH Bar Association E. Donald Dufresne Award for Outstanding Professionalism and was recently honored as a Rainbow Champion by Riverbend Community Mental Health Center, where he was a longtime member of the board.
In memory of attorney Arpiar G. Saunders, the NHBA Board of Governors has contributed to the NH Bar Foundation.
