Governor Appoints New Legal Counsel

Governor Maggie Hassan recently announced that Mary Ann Dempsey of Merrimack, formerly a senior assistant attorney general and civil bureau chief in the NH Attorney Generalís Office, will become the governorís legal counsel, replacing Lucy Hodder.
Dempsey served as the Civil Bureau Chief in the NH Attorney Generalís Office since 2012. In that role, she oversaw a team of attorneys who represent the 115 state agencies and boards on all legal matters, led in complex civil litigation, and acted as a liaison to the Governorís Office and the Legislature.
Dempsey serves on the NHBA Board of Governors as governor at large Ė public sector.
Prior to her service in the Attorney Generalís Office, Dempsey worked at the private firm Wiggin & Nourie in Manchester for 12 years, with a focus on insurance coverage, insurance defense, appellate, and commercial litigation. She was also the lead trial attorney in civil jury trials and arbitrations.
From 1997 Ė 1999, Dempsey served as a law clerk and senior law clerk in the New Hampshire Superior Court. She received her undergraduate degree from Clark University and her law degree from Boston College Law School.
