NH Bar Foundation News: Text-to-Donate Campaign Raises More Than $10K
The spirit of giving rippled through the packed room at the 2015 Midyear Meeting Honors & Awards Luncheon on Feb. 27 as attendees pledged $5,405 to the Hon. William F. Batchelder Justice Fund, an endowed fund of the NH Bar Foundation that supports legal services for low-income and vulnerable people.
Jennifer Parent, a Bar Foundation board member, provided instructions on how to pledge via text and announced that up to $5,000 would be matched by John and Skye Maher, who started the Batchelder Fund in 2008 with a $100,000 initial pledge. The attendees at the luncheon were instructed to text their name and donation amount to a particular number, and these pledges were then displayed on a large screen in the room.
Once a pledge was made, the software program used by the Bar Foundation sent a secure link to the donor to be used to fulfill the pledge with a credit card charge. Many of the donations were $50 to $100. It was the foundation’s first use of the text-to-donate process.
The NH Bar Foundation – the largest private source of funding for legal aid in the state – can use the funding to make a real difference for those less fortunate.
The Batchelder Fund makes grants through the Bar Foundation’s Justice Grants program. Jack Middleton, foundation chair, said he was pleased with the positive response to the new donation method and the giving spirit of members.
