Jane Young to Receive Marilla Ricker Award
Jane Young, chief of the Criminal Law bureau, has led the prosecution in many high-profile cases.
The New Hampshire Women’s Bar Award has selected Associate NH Attorney General Jane Young to receive the Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award for 2015.
Young will receive the award at the NHWBA Annual Fall Reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Concord Country Club. The award honors outstanding women lawyers in New Hampshire who have achieved professional excellence, and who have paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women.
Young is chief of the Attorney General’s Office Criminal Justice Bureau and has been with the Attorney General’s Office since 1992. She oversees the investigation and prosecution of public integrity crimes, major drug cases, homicides, healthcare fraud cases and complex financial crimes. She also oversees and represents the state in criminal appeals before the New Hampshire Supreme Court and serves as the primary liaison for the office’s regular collaboration with the County Attorneys, the New Hampshire State Police and the local police departments. She has been the lead prosecutor on numerous homicide cases, including the murder of 13-year-old Celina Cass and the Sheila Labarre double murder.
A supporter of Young’s nomination wrote, “She has been a dedicated public servant for her entire career and has taken on some of the toughest cases at the Attorney General’s Office. She is widely respected among defense attorneys and prosecutors alike, who know that her integrity and character are second to none.”
In addition to the presentation of the Ricker Award to Attorney Young, the NHWBA will present the Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship to Lyndsay Robinson, a second-year law student at UNH School of Law. A 50/50 raffle to support the McLaughlin Scholarship Fund will also be held at the reception.
