James J. Flynn, 68, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016.
A native of Scranton, Penn., Flynn was a caring and generous big brother to five sisters. After serving in the US Air Force, he went to law school to pursue his passion of fighting for social justice.
Flynn made Portsmouth his home in 1983, when he accepted a position as assistant city attorney. His long and varied legal career included working as a prosecutor and defense attorney at local firms, in his own practice on State Street, and for the State of New Hampshire. Most recently, he devoted his efforts to immigration law at Catholic Charities in Nashua.
An avid runner and skier, Flynn completed dozens of marathons and distance runs, and was active in ski patrol at several New England ski areas since the 1980s.
James leaves behind his wife, Regina, and son, Ian.
