In observance of Law Day, attorneys and judges are encouraged to visit New Hampshire classrooms Friday, May 6. The theme for Law Day 2016 is “Miranda: More than Words,” a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Miranda v. Arizona.
The NH Bar Association has created a series of videos available on the Bar Association’s Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/nhbar featuring NH Public Defender Sarah Rothman and NH State Police prosecutor James Shepard discussing the application of the Miranda warning in real life. Paired with materials created by the ABA, available at www.nhbar.org/law-related-education, these videos are designed to help attorneys engage with students.
The NHBA is asking interested attorneys to sign up to participate in Law Day and converse with students about Miranda or one of the Bar Association’s other classroom programs, such as “When Love Hurts,” which educates students on dating violence.
The NHBA is working to spread the word to teachers about its Law Day education opportunities and its program, A Lawyer and Judge in Every School. Attorneys can refer interested teachers to LRE Coordinator Robin E. Knippers, for more information. Attorneys who schedule classroom visits independently are urged to notify Knippers.
