In Memoriam: John J. “Jack” Zimmerman Jr.
John J. “Jack” Zimmerman, Jr. 89, of Maple Avenue, Keene, NH, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at his home in Keene.
A native of Keene, he was a 1944 graduate of Keene High School where he was class president, valedictorian and the first recipient of the prestigious Sharby trophy. Zimmerman was a graduate of Dartmouth College (AB) in 1948, and a graduate of Boston University Law School (LLB) in 1951. He was a US Navy veteran serving from July 1, 1944 to July 3, 1946 and served onboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte.
Zimmerman was employed in the Upton Law firm in Concord from 1951 to 1957 and served as Assistant Attorney General from 1957 to1960. He joined the law firm of Faulkner, Plaut, Hanna, and Zimmerman from 1960 to 1993 and served as Cheshire County Attorney from 1961 to 1964. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 819 of St. Bernard Church for 58 years where he served as the conferring officer from 1965 to his death.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Savings Bank of Walpole.
He is survived by three children, Diane Farina of Surry, NH, Carol J. Teitel of Bedford, NH, and Brian J. Zimmerman of Big Oak Valley, Calif., as well as four grandchildren, a brother, niece and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann (Ciodgo) Zimmerman, and a son, Steven Zimmerman in 2001.
In memory of our colleague, the New Hampshire Bar Association Board of Governors has made a contribution to the NH Bar Foundation.
