Section Connection: Planning for Section Success

By:

Joanne Hinnendael

Did you know that during one Bar year, the NHBA helps coordinate about 80 section meetings? As many as half of those meetings typically include CLE presentations. Keeping 22 practice sections organized with one staff coordinator can be a daunting task. Working together is the best way to make it successful.

Over the span of two weeks this summer, Sections Coordinator Deb Bridges and I held eight section leader orientation meetings to discuss with our elected section leaders what assistance from them the Bar staff would need to help sections be successful. We discussed communication with the Sections Coordinator, why itís important to schedule the entire year out now, how to qualify programs for NHMCLE, among other topics. Section leaders agreed that members would attend more meetings with more notice, so planning out the year now gets meetings onto their calendars.

Other topics covered were expenditures, legislative guidance and advocacy, the reasoning behind various policies, antitrust concerns, and a basic overview of the Procedure Manual for Sections (found on the Barís website on each section page).

I appreciate the time the section leaders took out of their days to attend these meetings. I am always happy to talk with members about how they can get involved in section activities and the benefits of doing so, both individually and collectively for the profession.

Supreme Court Rule 42(9) requires all NH admitted attorneys to notify the Bar Association of any address change, home or office.
