Court News: Court Seeks Firms to Serve as Electronic Filing Training Sites

More than 750 law firms have uploaded documents into the 22,000 electronically filed NH Circuit Court cases to date. Those numbers will expand in 2017 and beyond.

The NH Judicial Branch is seeking space at law offices across the state where it can hold training sessions in electronic case filing that could also be attended remotely by attorneys at other firms. Because estate planning is the next case type to move to electronic filing in spring 2017, the ideal training spaces would be in locations where attorneys routinely handle estate planning and administration matters, and that have large meeting rooms, wireless Internet and conference call-in access.

When estates are added to the electronic filing platform in the spring, all aspects of wills and estates will be filed online, including estate administration with or without wills, nursing home administration petitions, petitions to record out of state probate proceedings, wills filed without court administration and petitions to prove the validity of wills during lifetime.

The NH Judicial Branch is working with the NH Bar Association CLE Committee to prepare a training session to be held close in time to the go-live date for the first probate divisions to transition to electronic filing (targeted for May of 2017).

In addition, we hope to offer a handful of smaller training events around the state at host law firms. These will allow both in-person and remote access to interested lawyers and paralegals as they ready themselves to shift to electronic filing of estates. If your firm is interested in hosting a training session, please contact attorney Brigette Siff Holmes.

Gina Belmont is project director for the NH e-Court Project at the NH Judicial Branch. She previously served as the senior administrator of the NH Circuit Court.

If you are in doubt about the status of any meeting, please call the Bar Center at 603-224-6942 before you head out.
