NH Bar Foundation: John Garvey, Rory Parnell to Receive Bar Foundation Awards

John Garvey, the founding director of the nationally acclaimed Daniel Webster Scholar Honors Program at the University of New Hampshire School of Law, has been selected to receive the 2017 Frank Rowe Kenison Award at the Bar Foundation’s Annual Dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Manchester Country Club.

Rory Parnell, an associate at the Parnell, Michels & McKay law firm in Londonderry, will be the 2017 recipient of the Robert E. Kirby Award, presented to an attorney 35 years old or younger, recognizing outstanding advocacy and professionalism.

Garvey has directed the DWS program since its inception in 2005; the program has led to the admission of more than 200 “practice-ready” law school graduates into the New Hampshire bar. Not simply an academic program, DWS is an alternative to the bar exam and has received recognition as a national model in the advancement of legal education. Garvey previously was a partner at Sulloway & Hollis and continues to maintain a mediation practice.

Parnell, admitted to the Bar in 2002, has become a mainstay of the NH Bar’s Pro Bono program, earning its 2014 Rising Star Award. Two years ago, he helped organize a Pro Bono benefit hockey game for lawyers who want to hit the ice and slap the puck for a good cause.

NH Circuit Court Judge Susan Carbon, a past president of the NH Bar Association, will make keynote remarks on the work of the Bar Foundation, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Contact Lisha Brosseau for information on sponsorship of the dinner, which raises funds to support the charitable work of the Bar Foundation.
