National Pro Bono Week - NOW

2017 Friedman Pro Bono Award
Manchester attorney Marilyn Mahoney receives the 2017 Bruce Friedman Pro Bono Award from NH Supreme Court Justice (ret.) Carol Ann Conboy at UNH Law on Oct. 24.

In New Hampshire, we observe Pro Bono Month throughout October, but this week is the national Pro Bono Week. We would like to recognize and honor all members of the NHBA who perform pro bono service – through Bar or other programs, or independently.

Marilyn Mahoney of Manchester, in particular, was recognized this week with the 2017 Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award at a ceremony held Tuesday at UNH Law.

NH attorneys describe their favorite “Pro Bono Moments” in Bar News.

Post-Hurricane Assistance Still Needed

Attorneys with specific qualifications and skills are still needed to provide disaster legal assistance to victims of the hurricanes in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Volunteers should be aware that they may not be called upon immediately, as many victims continue to struggle with basic needs, and will likely turn to their legal needs 1-3 months following the disaster.

Lawyers admitted in Puerto Rico can use the PR Volunteer Form. Lawyers admitted in the US Virgin Islands can use the Virgin Islands Volunteer Form. Lawyers not admitted in PR, but who are experienced in FEMA claims, are encouraged to sign up on the Mentor Form.
