Peter Stanhope, who today leads the firm’s taxation and litigation division, established The Stanhope Group in 1967. The division provides forensic real estate appraisal services as well as litigation support in matters relating to:

• real estate taxation,
• zoning and land use,
• eminent domain,
• division of marital and business assets
• land damage

The firm offers valuation services provided by Certified General Appraisers in the areas of commercial, industrial, and residential real estate held in fee simple or division of the estate including leased fee, leasehold, surface easement, air and subsurface easement and tenants in common holding partial interests.

Recent engagements of interest include: a series of coastal oil storage terminals in New England and New York state; eminent domain takings along the Interstate 93 corridor; contaminated gasoline stations in coastal and central NH; auto dealerships in NH, MA, and ME; acquisitions of conservation easements throughout northern New England; golf courses throughout NH; and an 80,000 square foot NH corporation headquarters.

Testimony has been given in state and federal courts in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont as well as in matters of ad valorem assessment appeal before tax appeal boards in New Hampshire and Maine. Additionally, testimony has been offered to various state boards, municipal planning boards, and zoning boards of adjustment in matters relating to land use, variance and special exception. The firm maintains offices in Goffstown and Portsmouth, New Hampshire and has research staff based throughout New Hampshire, southern and central Maine and northeastern Massachusetts.
